Privacy Policy.

We believe a chess website should be straightforward about what happens to your information. This policy explains the data involved when you visit and use The 47 Chess Club.

Effective October 21, 2026Ontario, Canada
Operator setup pending: A direct privacy contact, operator name and mailing address must be completed before collecting enquiries or publicly presenting this as a finalized business policy.

01. Who operates the website

The website is branded The 47 Chess Club. Its accountable operator and contact information are shown at the end of this policy. Until those fields are completed, the website is a demonstration and enquiries should remain disabled.

02. Information involved

On this version of the site, you can explore the chessboard, play locally and use the browser-based Stockfish engine without creating an account.

  • Chessboard and engine information: moves, selected positions, analysis preferences, and engine calculations are processed in your browser while you use the page. This version does not intentionally upload your moves or positions to an operator-run game database.
  • Lesson enquiries: if an enquiry email is configured, you can enter your name, email address and lesson interest. Your browser prepares a message in your own email application; you must send it yourself. If an external booking provider is configured, selecting a booking link takes you to that provider under its own privacy policy.
  • Technical information: the hosting/CDN provider may process IP addresses, user-agent information, request times, security signals and other request details needed to deliver and protect the website.
  • External resources: Google Fonts is requested by the browser for the site's typography. Google may receive technical request information when those resources load.

03. Why information is used

Information is used to deliver website content, run the chess interface on your device, maintain security and reliability, respond to enquiries you choose to send, and arrange lessons or analysis services if agreed with you.

Submitting a lesson enquiry does not subscribe you to marketing emails. A separate consent mechanism would be required if a marketing list is introduced.

04. Providers and international processing

Cloudflare provides website delivery, security and hosting. Google provides optional web font resources, and any external booking service you choose to use will have its own handling practices. These providers may process data outside Canada. We do not currently operate advertising trackers or a third-party advertising platform within this website package.

If hosting, analytics, booking, payments, newsletters, player accounts or game storage are added later, this policy must be updated to describe the new data and partners before those features launch.

05. Cookies and local storage

This website package does not deliberately set advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies. Security infrastructure may use cookies or similar technical mechanisms when necessary to protect the service. The chess engine operates locally in your browser and stores your board colour and piece-style preferences locally in your browser so they persist on the same device. Game moves, clocks and FEN positions remain in temporary page memory in this version. The optional full-engine download uses a same-origin service worker for locally served engine files; your browser may cache engine assets. You can clear local site data and cached files through your browser settings. Future features such as saved games would require an updated disclosure.

06. Retention and security

Games, analysis and clocks generally last for the active browser session. Board appearance preferences persist in localStorage until cleared. Engine files may be cached by your browser. Emails that you send are held in the relevant mailboxes and retained only as necessary for responding, recordkeeping, dispute handling or legal obligations. Hosting-provider technical data may be retained under the provider's applicable settings and policies.

Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards should be applied, although no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

07. Your privacy choices and rights

Subject to applicable law, you can request information about personal data held by the operator, ask for access or correction, withdraw consent where available, or request deletion when retention is unnecessary or unlawful. To make a request, use the contact information below. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you have concerns.

08. Children and families

Chess is enjoyed by people of all ages. Children should use contact or booking features with a parent or guardian. This version does not knowingly invite children under 13 to submit personal information independently. A dedicated junior program, student accounts, or child-data collection would require additional disclosures and age-appropriate consent controls.

09. Updates

We may update this policy when the site's technology, features or business practices change. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated effective date and any additional notice required by law.
